Artist: Max Bill (Swiss, 1908-1994)
Max Bill (1908-1994) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, typographer, and teacher. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich and the famous Bauhaus under Josef Albers, Wassily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee. He later co-founded the Ulm School of Arts and Crafts, where he was the head of the architecture and product design departments during the 1950s. His works are abstract and rely on mathematics and geometric problems such as the Möbius strip. Bill was a trendsetter in Swiss design and concrete art, and his influence spread as far as South America.
