Artist: Mary Ellen Mark (American, 1941-2015)
American photographer. Mark earned her BFA in Painting and Art History (1962) and her MA in Photojournalism from the University of Pennyslvania (1964). Her photographs, usually portraits, reflect a humanistic ideal while portraying internationally diverse cultures. Her work has also depicted searing issues such as heroin addiction, homelessness, mental illness, prostitution, and runaways. She has published eighteen books and produced numerous films. She is known for her photographs of Mother Theresa.
