Artist: Marino Marini (Italian, 1901-1980)
Italian sculptor, painter, and graphic artist. Marini began studies at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Florence (1917). As an art student, he was greatly influenced by Etruscan and Roman antiquity, Gothic style, and the medieval rennaissance. His sculpted figures represent an archaic, abstract simplicity of form, and he is especially well-known for his nude and equestrian figures. He was influential in the revival of portrait sculpture in Italy in the early 20th century. The Marini Museum in Florence was erected (1971) to house Marini's life's work. He is known for his Dancer series and portrait of composer Igor Stravinsky.
