Artist: Lucien Clergue (French, 1934-2014)
French photographer. Clergue is know for redefining photography within the context of high art. He founded the international festival of photography, Les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles, and is best known for his portraits of Pablo Picasso. His exhibit in 1961 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York earned him widespread recognition, and he became the first photographer to join the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2006. Also served as president of the society in 2013.
