Artist: Lois Swirnoff
Attended The Cooper Union School of Art in New York and later earned her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Yale University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Taught art at Wellesley College and UCLA. Was named Professor Emerita of Art and Design at UCLA following a thirteen-year career there. Also lectured at Harvard University (1968-1975), served as Chair of the Art Department at Skidmore College (1977-1981) and swerved as the Feltman Chair in Light at Cooper Union. Has had solo exhibitions at the National Academy of Sciences, the Farnsworth Art Museum and Swetzoff Gallery in Boston among many other institutions. Won the Erskine Hewitt Award from Cooper Union (1951), the Fulbright Fellowship to Italy for painting (1951-1952), the Mary I. Bunting Fellowship of Radcliff in painting (191-1962) and two Yaddo Fellowships in 1985 and 1987, respectively. Has written one book: Dimensional Color, funded by a Graham Foundation Grant.
