Bontecou was an American artist born in Providence, RI in 1931. Gaining influence from WWII and summers spent in Nova Scotia, Bontecuo was best known for her industrial sculptural works of metal and canvas created her signature, identifiable style. She rose to fame on the New York art scene in the 1960s before moving to Pennsylvania and teaching at Brooklyn College.
