Artist: Kenneth Martin (British, 1905-1989)
British painter and sculptor. Led the revival of Constructivist Art in the 1940s. Studied at the Royal College of Art in 1929-1932. Became an abstract painter and sculptor after nearly two decades of painting Realist portraits and landscapes—a radical shift to abstract from material, non-representational from representational, geometric from organic. Heavily influenced by Kazimir Malevich, the father of Constructivism, and Alexander Calder, an American sculptor known for his innovative mobiles. Created geometric abstract works in both painting and kinetic sculpture.
