  • Artist: Kawanabe Kyosai (Japanese, 1831-1889)

Kawanabe Kyôsai (Gyôsai) was a Japanese painter. He gained popularity and success through his caricatures, including political satires, which also often led to his imprisonment. He was known as the Demon of Painting for a number of reasons, including his exaggerated depictions of animals and monsters.
