Artist: Jules Pascin (Bulgarian-American, 1885-1930)
Bulgarian artist known for his sensitive study of women through drawings and paintings. Pascin attended art school in Munich and published many drawings in satire journals. Became a U.S. citizen in 1920 to avoid serving in the Bulgarian army during World War I. He moved back to Paris in 1920 and created many series of paintings, of satirical and ironic studies of women. Pascin was successful at selling artworks but struggled with depression and alcoholism. He ended his own life the night before an upcoming exhibition.
