Artist: John Henry (American, b. 1943)
American sculptor. Known for abstract, painted steel sculptures that range in scale from small tabletop pieces to massive outdoor works. Designed linear and planar pieces of steel in minutely balanced compositions that explore juxtapositions of solid and empty spaces. Since 1971, produced monumental and large-scale works for museums, cities and other public institutions in North America, Europe and Asia. Lectured and taught extensively in several universities and colleges including the Art Institute of Chicago. Also actively promoted the arts as Board member at large, Chairman of the Programs Committee and member of Executive committee on the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
