Artist: Jiuyu Xiao (Chinese-American, b. 1996)
Chinese-American painter. Xiao was born in China and moved to the United States during her teenage years. She pursued a double major in Studio Art and French and Francophone Studies at Davidson College, and graduated with le Prix Français. After graduation, Xiao is currently a multimedia artist working out of New Jersey. Her artwork originates from her recollection of childhood memories, and focuses on questions regarding womanhood, body presentation and identity. Xiao mainly works with collaging two contrasting industries, one being fashion design and one being fine arts. In 2019, she held a solo exhibition at the Smith Gallery located at Davidson College, Davidson, NC. The artist is a recipient of the McAllen Scholarship and the Azule Fellowship.
