  • Artist: Huma Bhabha (Pakistani-American, b. 1962)

Huma Bhabha (b. 1962) is a Pakistani-American sculptor, photographer, and illustrator based in Poughkeepsie, NY. She received her BFA in 1985 from the Rhode Island School of Design and later received her MFA from the School of the Arts at Columbia University, New York, in 1989. Her work addresses themes of memory, war, displacement, and the lingering effects of colonialism. Bhabha draws inspiration from ancient works, including Greek Kouros, Gandharan Buddhas, and Egyptian reliquaries, and modern artists like Giacometti, Picasso, and Rauschenberg, as well as science fiction, horror movies, and popular novels. In May 2025, Bhabha's work will be featured in Encounters: Giacometti at the Barbican Centre, London.
