  • Artist: Heinrich Aldegrever (German, 1502-1561)

Heinrich Aldegrever (1502–1561) was a German painter and printmaker. Trained as a goldsmith and ornamental ironworker, he specialized in the optical effects of light and shadow. Aldegrever is recognized for the small size of his prints and his choice of mythological and Biblical subjects in his engravings. He was associated with the German Renaissance artist group known as the "Little Masters" and produced approximately 300 small-scale engravings over a 30-year period.
