Artist: Hans Hofmann (German-American, 1880-1966)
German-American painter. Modern art teacher and abstract artist who studied in Munich and Paris before moving to New York. He interacted with many prominent and avant-garde artists and was especially influenced by Cubism's freedom of form and Matisse's use of color. He developed a style that he referred to as "Push and Pull," which involved an experimental focus on the interconnected nature of color, form, texture, and space. His paintings are often characterized by their abstract shapes and bold expressions of color.
