Artist: Hagit Barkai (Israeli, b. 1973)
Israeli painter. Barkai earned her BA in Philosophy from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and MFA in painting and drawing from Penn State University in 2008. She has received many grants and awards including the College Art Association Professional Development Fellowship in Visual Arts in 2008, first place award for the Visual Arts in the Graduate Research Exhibition at Penn State University in 2007, a travel grant to Israel from the School of Visual Arts at Penn State University in 2006 and she represented Penn State University in the Big Ten Conference in Chicago, Il in 2006. She also had teaching positions at several universities, including at Davidson College from 2011 to 2016. Her work has been exhibited around the US, including at Praxis Gallery, New York, NY; Nau-haus, Houston, Texas; Van Every Gallery in Davidson, NC; Chashama Gallery in New York, NY, Crane Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, Fe Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA, and the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg, PA.
