Artist: Giorgio Ghisi (Italian, 1520-1582)
Italian engraver. Ghisi is known for his reproduced engraved prints and damascened metalwork. There are only two damascened metalwork that are believed to have been created by Ghisi to have survived. He was the son of Ludovico Ghisi, a Mantuan merchant, and is believed to have learned engraving from Giovanni Battista Scultori. His engravings were based on paintings by other artists, such as Michelangelo, his own brother Teodoro, Raphael, Agnolo Bronzino, and many others. He incorporates his own personal twist in the backgrounds and foliage.
