Artist: George Loftus Noyes (Canadian-American, 1864-1954)
Canadian-American painter. Noyes studied at the Boston School of American Impressionism, the Massachusetts Normal School, and at the Académie Colarossi. He was a respected landscape and still life painter in Boston, and in this style was influenced by Jean Andre Rixens. Unfortunately, a barn fire (1939) destroyed hundreds of his works, plunging Noyes into a deep depression at the age of 75. Much of his work has gained more recognition post-mortem, and he has now gained fame in the early 20th century as an American Impressionist.
