Artist: Fannie Hillsmith (American, 1911-2007)
American painter. Hillsmith received training at the Boston Museum School, Art Students League, and Stanley Hayter’s Atelier 17 printmaking studio. Known for her Cubist-inspired still lifes and interiors, Hillsmith also assembled constructions made from tools and jewelry. Hillsmith used a simple color palette and shapes in her work to express characteristics of nature. Her primary motivation for her abstract works was to evoke emotion and feeling.
