  • Artist: Eugène Delacroix (French, 1798-1863)

French Romantic painter and lithographer. His pantings are characterized by expressive brushstrokes and a tight handle on the optical effects of color. He was more concerned with color, composition and movement rather than creating a realistically rendered image as one would create in the Neoclassical perfectionism movement. His lithographs were often illustrations of texts by Shakespeare, Sir Walter Scott, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
