  • Artist: Edward Curtis (American, 1868-1952)

American photographer and ethnologist. Known for his work documenting Native Americans in North America in the final decades of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Curtis dedicated 30 years to photographing the lives of eighty tribes west of the Mississippi, spanning from the Mexican border to northern Alaska, which culminated in his major work: The North American Indian. Curtis is celebrated for recording the traditional culture and way of life of native peoples before they disappeared.
