Artist: David Shapiro (American, 1944-2014)
American multimedia painter and printmaker. Practicing Buddhist known for abstractions derived from Buddhist hand symbols and yoga poses. Utilized nontraditional mediums to create his works such as Nepalese or Japanese papers, burlap, nylon screening, finely ground pumice, metal filings, marble dust, and graphite. Believed his paintings to be extensions of not only his body but of his essence and did not conform to the latest trend in the art world. Exhibited in America, Japan, Canada, and England.
