Artist: David Humphreys Miller (American, 1918-1992)
American painter, author, and film advisor. Miller studied art at the University of Michigan, New York University, and at the Grand Central School of Art. He also served with the 14th Air Corps in China (1942). He specialized in the culture of the northern Plains Indians. He is most well-known for his 72 portraits of the survivors of the Battle of Little Bighorn. He learned 14 Indian languages and was adopted into 16 separate Indian families. He served as a tech advisor for 25 Western films, organized the last reunion for the Bighorn survivors, and wrote extensive recollections of the Custer survivors.
