Artist: David Hare (American, d. 1992)
American photographer and painter. David Hare was born in New York City and after studying biology and chemistry, he decided to open a commercial photography studio. In the 1940s, he came into contact with surrealist artists in the city and began to produce sculptures. He went on to coproduce a surrealist magazine. Through the late 1940s and early 1950s, Hare took trips to Paris, meeting Balthus, Victor Brauner, Alberto Giacometti, and Pablo Picasso. In the 1960s, he shifted his focus to painting, and later in his career, held teaching positions at the Philadelphia College of Art, the University of Oregon, Eugene, and the Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. His works have been featured in galleries and shows around the world.
