Artist: Carey Young (British, b. 1970)
British multimedia artist, born in Lusaka, Zambia. Young, a UK/US national, spent her academic career in England, studying at Manchester Polytechnic, the University of Brighton, and the Royal College of Art in London. Young's works have been widely exhibited at institutions such as the Dallas Museum of Art; Centre George Pompidou, Paris; Kanal–Centre Pompidou, Brussels; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Power Plant, Toronto; and Tate Britain, London. She has participated in several biennials, including those in Moscow (2013, 2007), Taipei (2010), Sharjah (2005), and Venice (2003). Young is the recipient of a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (2020-2021), the Elephant Trust Award (2020), and Creative Arts Fellowship through the University of Oxford (2018-2020), among others. She resides in London, where she is an Assistant Professor at Slade School of Fine Art, and is represented by Paula Cooper Gallery in New York.
