Artist: Cameron Johnson (African American)
Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, Johnson became involved in art while attending Northeast School of the Arts. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. During his time at East Carolina University, he taught drawing and design classes and created several murals for the Mendenhall Student Center. As an artist, Cameron Johnson constantly evaluates what holds the most meaning for him. His goal is to reinforce a need for connection through positive relationships constructed in art. Johnson exhibited widely and has won numerous awards, including “Best in Show” and “First Place Painting” at the Illumina Art Exhibition in Greensville, NC. His murals can be seen in towns and cities across North Carolina, including a recent completion in Princeville’s Heritage Park to commemorate the history of Princeville. He also has worked on a large display in downtown Charlotte. Currently, Johnson is an Associate Professor at Meredith College.
