Artist: Beverly Pepper (American, 1922-2020)
American sculptor who studied industrial design and photography at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. First began as a commercial art director then studied painting at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. Began artist career as a painter but was inspired by the ruins of a Cambodian temple to take up sculpture. Moved from carving logs to stainless steel and other pieces composed of both natural and industrial elements. Works have been exhibited by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and many others.
