Artist: Bert Carpenter (1920-2003)
Carpenter attended Stanford University, Chouinard Art Institute and Columbia University. He has taught at Columbia University in the humanities program and helped found the Art Barn School of Art and the Honolulu Artist’s League. Carpenter served as Chairman of the Art Department at the University of Hawaii (Manoa) before becoming the head of the Art Departnment at UNCG. In 1989, he retired as a professor emeritus of art. Carpetner has also served as director of UNCG’s Weatherspoon Art Gallery. He has had exhibitions in New York at numerous galleries and held a solo exhibition at Artist’s Space.
