Artist: Anthony Goicolea (Cuban-American, b. 1971)
Cuban-American artist. Earned a BA in Art History and minor in Romance Languages as well as a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia. Goicolea received an MFA in sculpture and photography from Pratt Institute of Art in 1997. He explores themes of personal history and identity, cultural tradition and heritage, and alienation and displacement. Goicolea is best known for his powerful, and often unsettling, staged photograhic and video works. His photographs often deal with issues of androgyny, homosexuality, and child sexuality.
