Artist: Alvin Ross (American, 1920-1975)
American painter. Born in Vineland, New Jersey and attended Tyler School of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Moved to New York after school and traveled Europe during the 1950s-60s. Was influenced by Hartley and de Chirico. Was a realist painter even amidst peak of Abstract Expressionism. Later became Chairman of the Art History Department at the Pratt Institute and lectured on the History of Art and Architecture at the New School for Social Research and New York School of Interior Design. Became president of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in 1973.
