American photographer born in New York City. Photography career started late when he was given a camera as a wedding gift. Became part of the New York Photo League soon after and was inspired by Bauhaus photographer László Moholy-Nagy and American photographer Harry Callahan. Works reside at several institutions including the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington D.C. Best known for black-and-white photos taken from both aerial and close-up perspectives.
