Artist Statement:
‘ amay- sky, up, above, over, top. This painting portrays a region within the cultural lands of the Mojave Desert. The arid quality of the desert reveals a hauntingly beautiful typography further displaying dramatic mountain ranges, and eerie rock formations. This area forms part of the significant lands of Spirit Mountain, named Avi Kwa Ame by the Mojave Tribe that attributes the land to their creation and spiritual history. “Amay” depicts the natural beauty, and the culturally symbolic importance of the Mojave Desert and it’s connection to indigenous history.
