A painting of a bright pink figure surrounded and partly obscured by swirls of vibrant color that resemble leaves and foliage. Parts of the figure’s face are realistically sketched while other parts - such as the left eye - are distorted with rough blobs of paint. A green leaf droops from one side of the mouth. Some of the blobs and leaves are so three-dimensional that they jut out of the painting surface.
The paintings, drawings, and live performances of Las Vegas-based artist Wendy Kveck explore cultural depictions of women as markers of vulnerability and chaos. Kveck has exhibited at galleries and institutions in California, Illinois, Arizona, Texas, Oregon, Florida, and Nevada; with shows at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art and in Tilting the Basin: Contemporary Art of Nevada at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and downtown Las Vegas. UNLV MFA 2007.
