Artist: Lucian Octavius Pompili (American, b. 1942)
Lucian Octavius Pompili came of age as an artist during the revolution in ceramics that swept through Southern California during the 1960s and ‘70s under the guidance of Peter Voulkos and Robert Arneson. Born in 1942 in Washington, D.C., Pompili studied under Arneson at the University of California, Davis, and received a SACA Award from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in 1975. His work has been exhibited across the United States with shows at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; Theo Portnoy Gallery, NYC; Sybaris Gallery, Detroit, MI; and the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia. It is featured in the collections of SFMOMA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
