Artist: Fred Bell
Fred Bell is very comfortable sitting in the desert, miles from anywhere, and listening to the spirit of the land. A 2005 article in the Seattle Times about Gordon Hempton’s quest to preserve the natural soundscape in Olympic National Park was his epiphany. Fred realized that on numerous hikes, while he heard the sounds of nature, he never stopped to intentionally listen. Thus began his pursuit of finding and recording quiet places around Nevada. Fred is a member of IATSE Local 720 and currently works as the lead video engineer for the Blue Man show. He is currently producing a short documentary about Nevada’s quiet spaces titled, “Listening In The Blue Places.” Learn more about Fred’s work at www.SoundsAndSpaces.net.
