Inge Claire Kaufmann was one of TMC’s first Auxiliary workers in the 1950s. When she died at a young age, her friends raised over $75,000 in her honor to equip a new radiology lab. They also commissioned this portrait, to hang in memoriam in Radiology so that Ms. Kaufmann could continue to be its guardian angel.
During her career artist Frances O'Brien painted many well-known subjects, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Irving Berlin, Winston Churchill, and Eleanor Roosevelt. She was good friends with Georgia O’Keeffe –sharing an apartment with her in New York City and staying in close contact after they both moved to the southwest.
