The Cathedral in Cádiz is worthy of a show in itself and many images of it are included in The Cooper Gallery Collection. This image, taken from the roof of my apartment in the magic light of late afternoon, captures a seagull posing in front of the Cathedral, the shadows formed by buildings leading to Cathedral square, the splendor of the Cathedral itself, a small view of the Gulf of Cádiz, and the row of wind turbines on the far shore. The wonderful resolution stokes the ability to tell stories within and across these layers. The next port counter clockwise from Cádiz on the Gulf of Cádiz is Santa Maria, as in The Niña, The Pinta, and The Santa Maria, which launched from that port in 1492.
