Having recently moved back close to where I grew up on the Thames Estuary, my afternoon seafront walks have taken me past several of the Yacht Clubs' storage jetties. I am transported back to a favourite childhood memory of the sound of the rigging tapping in the breeze. I felt the need to capture the memory on paper, along with the colour harmony and interesting shapes that the dinghies make, when 'resting' from their work. I intentionally introduced a hazy feel to the scene by using pastel and wax crayon, before my watercolours, to emphasise the patterning, contrast and shapes, rather than the realism of the scene.
The painting is framed under glass with a plain white mount and minimalist white wooden frame.
