Jye Ang's "Orbe 04" continues the series of new panels and presents a compelling synthesis of texture, colour, and form, combining the organic and the synthetic in this latest abstract landscape. The artwork, originating from an original abstract landscape painting by the artist, undergoes a transformative digital process before being composited as a digital UV pigment ink print. The series is printed to large format aluminium panels using an ultra high resolution image. This modern technique not only captures the vigour of the brushstrokes but also amplifies the depth and intensity of the transformed colours, allowing the work to resonate within the space it occupies.
Upon viewing "Orbe 04," one is immediately struck by the rich, earthy palette, wherein the deep umbers and siennas coalesce with the smoky charcoals and hints of crimson. These colours seem to emulate the natural world, suggesting the erosion of geological formations or the ephemeral beauty of a sunset. The artwork's circular format provides a window into this abstracted landscape, inviting contemplation and introspection.
The tactile quality of the piece, perceivable even in its digitised state, speaks to the gestural freedom and lack of restraint reminiscent of abstract expressionist masters like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. Yet, Ang's digital intervention introduces a contemporary layer, perhaps akin to the works of Gerhard Richter, who also combined painterly abstraction with mechanical processes. The result is a dialogue between the unpredictable nature of the hand-painted and the precision of digital execution.
Emotionally, "Orbe 04" elicits a sense of the energy and warmth. The artist draws inspiration in this piece as both a reflection of the tumultuous inner landscapes of the human psyche and a commentary on the constant flux of the natural world. "Orbe 04" demands an emotional response, compelling viewers to connect with the artwork on a visceral level.
