Tim Maguire’s current practice is an amalgam of references to several media: he recreates paintings of images through a technique that references printing processes. He speaks of his works as “chemical interventions” that are “more about breaking imagery down, exposing the process that leads to photographic illusion.” Maguire works from his photographs of fruit, flowers in bloom and decay, or landscapes.
His paintings are rendered using layers of the three colors used in digital printing: cyan, magenta, and yellow. Only upon close inspection is it apparent that the images show traces of the human hand, with betraying drips and splotches purposefully introduced to disrupt photographic perfection.
