Etchings are a very special type of artwork that has changed little in centuries and had its roots in decorative engraving of battle armor.
Completed with inks and papers and initially wrought in metal plates with asphalt and repeated acid baths, they are truly a work that is hard won.
"The Prize" remembers a hard won battle with a Madison River Rainbow Trout on a flyrod with a climatic ending on a stream-side lichen encrusted rock. This etching is special to me for a couple reasons... it is, to date, the largest copper plate line etching that I have created and the blacks were created with repeated cross hatching etched into the plate.
