Commissioned by the White Star Line and the Harland & Wolff shipyard, the Arrol Gantry was a large steel structure built by Sir William Arrol & Co. at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was built to act as a support structure for the overhead cranes and hydraulic riveting machines used in the building of the three Olympic-class liners, Olympic, Titanic, and later Britannic.
This large section of steel was removed direct from Titanic's bay at the Arrol Gantry prior to its demolition in 1970, and is mounted upon a hand-polished plaque of English walnut.
