From the artist: Spiral of Silence was inspired by the US Senate, particularly the way they treated their own. In 2017, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris were making statements and asking questions when their (male) colleagues attempted to silence them through obscure procedures and through the thinly disguised mechanism of courtesy. Nevertheless, they persisted! How many other ways are we being silenced? Who wants us to be silent? What are they afraid of hearing? What are the words they fear and what actions might those words inspire?
