- Alexander Hernandez
Alexander Hernandez was part of SJMQT's AIR program in April through June of 2019. His work combines multiple identities and narratives with his Oaxacan roots, Queer sensibilities, and pop culture.
Alexander Hernandez is a San Francisco-based artist who explores gender, immigration, and cultural assimilation. As a self-identified Queer artist coming from an immigrant background, Hernandez references those experiences through his work using needlework, DIY craft, and traditional techniques. His patch-working of domestic fabrics, digitized prints, cultural textiles and pop-cultural artifacts create Frankensteinian-like work that embrace layers and patterns.
This particular piece was created from found pillowcases, bed sheets, denim, and other cast-off fabrics and scraps.
