Quilt top by Nellie Worthington in the early 20th century. Quilting by Lucy Hilty. Blue patterned cotton in medium and dark blue on white form the chain pattern. The batt is thin cotton. Lucy attempted her first feather design border. It was her feather ‘epiphany’ says her fellow quilters. She took a long time to perfect feathers that move around rather than end at the corners. She quilted traditional Mennonite medallions between the chains and hand finished exquisite border corners that come together in graceful points to complete the quilt in 1976. This is the first quilting pattern that Lucy designed by herself. It is her come-back quilt that starts her emphasis on the quilting pattern as an integral part of the overall quilt design.
