Crazy Quilt is embroidered and tied, made by Irene Barrett and dated to 1939. The blue floral backing is a "drapery stripe" made to be pinch pleated so that one stripe shows when the drapes are open. Both stripes are usable when the drapes are closed.
The making of crazy quilts from scraps of silks, satins, and velvets was all the rage among fashionable young ladies in the last two decades of the the 19th century, while working women created less extravagant versions of this type of fancywork well into the early decades of the 20th century.
