My studio practice revolves around themes of feminine labors, formalism, socio-political
issues and marginalized artistic media. My most substantial bodies of work to date
explores the act of labor as performance mediated and informed by gendered
materials and processes derived from textile traditions. Exploring social and sexual
politics, I use the art of performance and textiles to examine gender roles and the
perception of ‘women’s work’ in a public space. Working within a system of scale and
artistic formalism, I am additionally combining the practices of drawing, painting,
architecture and sculpture into a new media and art form. Over time I have created a
unique lexicon of terms to call my bodies of work: Ironings, Stitchings, Needlemarking and Chalkings.
