Artist: Ella Mae White
(1898-1992) Born in Arkansas, the oldest of 10 children, she learned to quilt from her mother. Her family moved to California in the early 1920’s and settled in a rural community north of Las Angeles. It was their family tradition to make and present a handmade silk patchwork quilt to girls about to be married. She pieced at least 20 over the years and quilted them with her two sisters.
