The series, “The Mundane,” is comprised of two graphite and ink drawings, "First Pair" and "There You Are.” Through the use of graphite powder, graphite sticks, and white and black India ink, the intent was to capture the symbolic essence of what were mundane yet indispensable personal items in the early 21st century.
”First Pair” is a traditional portrait of Apple earbuds, a near-ubiquitous symbol of contemporary material culture and modern connectivity of the early 21st century. This piece is a commentary on how cold, impersonal technology had become an intimate part of our daily life. Portraying the ear buds in a classical style juxtaposes the fleeting nature of technology with the enduring qualities of traditional art. The use of graphite powder and India ink highlights the design and form of the earbuds, inviting viewers to contemplate the craftsmanship behind both the object and the artwork.
"There You Are" focuses on a set of keys and a key ring, simple tools to grant access and signify security. These objects, once commonplace tools for access and security, are becoming symbols of a bygone era. As our world shifts towards digital security solutions, the humble key and keyring stand as reminders of a simpler, more tactile time.
This series is not just an exploration of technique but also a reflection on the evolving relationship between humans and objects amid the digital pace of change.
