Edie Fake creates fantastical architectures that channel the intentions and complexities of bodies and communities. His artworks use a vocabulary of ornamentation to embody the intricacy and unconventionality of queer identity and history. Processing Department, a formally complex and colorful composition, implies that the process of becoming oneself is a labyrinthian journey towards an illusory destination. Mixing ancient symbolism, such as pre-Columbian maze patterns, with the Sci-fi ambience of an electric palette, Fake’s composition blurs the lines between recognizable architecture and time-bending dreamscape. The depicted façade serves as a reminder that myriad untold histories, unmapped territories, and alternate paths through and to identity, especially for the LGBTQ+ community, are still in the process of finding their way to us.
