Peter Bonney rendition of the Cape Wineland's in the Stellenbosh area.
The worker cottage and the people here tell the "other" story. Most holiday makers and tourists will see the glitz and glamour of the manor house, and the restaurant, and the wine tasting rooms therein. That side of the story is a mere suggestion here, in the gable of the manor house beyond the tree line. But those sipping chilled wine and enjoying their langoustines and caviar, in the manor house, on that side of the tree line, won't see or be remotely aware, of the earthy nitty gritty engine room life and lifestyle, depicted here, this side of the tree line, in the focal point, the foreground. The workers, and the labour, and the simplicity—(and ironically, complexity in a different sense)— of life this side of the tree line, away from the glitz and glamour of life that side.
